Second Wind Dreams® Kicked off 15th Anniversary: Dream Day 2012
Second Wind Dreams®, an international non-profit, celebrated 15 years of making dreams come true for elders in long term care communities. On Dream Day 2012 Elders Care Communities across the country made dreams come true for residents living in their communities and celebrated 15 year of dream fulfillment. Second Wind Dreams® with the help of two elder care communities made dreams come true for two metro Atlanta area elders.
Parkview Nursing Home in Atlanta, Georgia joined the Second Wind Dreams® home office staff to make 90 year old family matriarch Prince’s dream of cooking again come true. Prince, a successful LPN, told Parkview Nursing home staff she missed cooking, especially homemade biscuits. Friday, January 13, 2012 at 10am Prince had the opportunity to make her biscuit recipe from scratch for brunch for fellow residents and staff to enjoy.
At the Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA in Alpharetta at 1:30pm, 90 year old Hazel’s lifelong dream of becoming a lifeguard came true. Hazel, a resident of Sunrise Senior Living of East Cobb, was a professional swimmer and diver in the 1930s. She possessed all the skills but was prevented from working as a professional lifeguard because she was a woman and now she had the opportunity to realize her dream.
Second Wind Dreams® was founded by P.K. Beville in Marietta, Georgia on January 15, 1997. The original dream fulfilled was for 92 year old twins when an Elvis impersonator sang to them during happy hour. Since that day, Second Wind Dreams® and members have made thousands of dreams come true with thousands of volunteer hours. The dreams range from the simple to the sublime with dreams for fun being the largest category of dreams.
